Area Damage & Cover Destruction

Explosives in STAR WARS Zero Company — grenades and demolition tools that hit grouped enemies, destroy cover and flush entrenched defenders out of position for the squad to finish.

Cover is only cover until it isn't.

Some problems can’t be solved with a single clean shot — a cluster of enemies behind solid cover, for instance. That’s where explosives earn their place in STAR WARS Zero Company: grenades and demolition tools that change the battlefield itself.

What explosives do best

Explosives do two things no blaster can. First, area damage — a well-placed grenade hits several grouped enemies at once, punishing the kind of clustered formation that’s otherwise hard to break. Second, and often more valuable, cover destruction: blow apart the wall an enemy is hiding behind and you’ve turned a protected target into an exposed one for the rest of the squad to finish. In a game where the cover system decides everything, the ability to delete cover is a tactical superpower.

There’s a catch: explosives are usually a limited resource. You won’t have unlimited grenades, so each one is a decision — spend it to break a stalemate, not to chip a lone target you could shoot.

Which operatives carry them

Explosives suit operatives who set up or break open positions:

  • Assault — clears a room or softens a cluster before pushing in.
  • Scoundrel — pairs explosives with debuffs and gadgets to dismantle an entrenched position.
  • Heavy — launchers and demolition fit its area-control identity.

Loadout thinking

Think of explosives as enablers for your damage dealers. The highest-value grenade isn’t the one that gets a kill on its own — it’s the one that strips a cluster’s cover so your Sharpshooter and Gunslinger convert three exposed targets in the same turn. Save them for the moment a position is too strong to crack any other way, and chain them with the squad’s synergies and Advantage spends for maximum effect.

What we don’t know yet

Specific explosive types, blast radii, environmental destruction and how many you can carry haven’t been confirmed. We profile the category and its role here, and will detail individual items as the arsenal is revealed before launch.
