The journey to launch began in April 2025, when EA and Lucasfilm Games announced STAR WARS Zero Company — a single-player, turn-based tactics game set in the Clone Wars.

A new studio with a familiar pedigree

The reveal introduced Bit Reactor as lead developer, working in collaboration with Respawn Entertainment and Lucasfilm Games. Bit Reactor was founded in 2021 by Greg Foertsch, who spent two decades at Firaxis as art director on the modern XCOM series — immediately signalling the kind of tactics experience to expect.

The pitch

From the start, the hook was clear: command Zero Company, a squad of the Clone Wars’ “most cunning operatives,” through a story-driven campaign blending cinematic storytelling with strategic, turn-based combat. Lucasfilm described the approach as “fresh for the franchise.”

Over the following year that pitch filled out into twelve classes, a roster of species, the Den base of operations and a confirmed August 27, 2026 release date — but it all started here.
